I know we all prefer cakes, chocolate, pizza and spaghetti bolognese to vegetables and fruit.

But fruit and vegetables are really good for you, so mum is right about that!

Here’s a tip to help you enjoy eating them your own way.

You’ll get a few ideas by looking at the pictures like those strange-looking sandwiches with amusing tops.

There’s only one condition: be creative. Use as many different types of fruit and vegetables as you like (which you’ll realize you actually do like) and discover even more. Create colorful characters with the help of mum or dad; it’s up to you who you do it with.

Have fun, and you will see that fruit and vegetables have a variety of magnificent flavors and lovely textures.

Giuseppe Arcimboldo’s painting called “THE REVERSIBLE HEAD » is an Italian painting dated around 1590.

It’s a man’s head made of fruit. Turn the picture round and it looks like a basket of fruit. Weird, isn’t it?

The artist worked out how to communicate that fruit and vegetables are for everybody well before they had TVs.

It’s Surrealist Art and brrrr… a bit scary and awesome too. I love it!

Nowadays, we call this FOOD ART.

A WORD FOR PARENTS:

To really enjoy cooking with the kids, you have to be well organized and mustn’t worry about the state of the kitchen after the kids have been there.

They are delighted to get their hands on a recipe and make an artistic composition that makes them taste everything.

Say goodbye to the usual “you’re not leaving the table till you eat your veg” battles.

That’s why we should involve kids more with the cooking. Access to the kitchen must be a place of sharing at any age. To start with, as early as 3 years old, a child can help you with small tasks like mixing eggs, washing fruit, buttering a dish, and so on.

He or she will learn quickly and it’s a great way to enjoy doing things together.

QUICK GUESSING GAME:

I am an orange vegetable, good for your eyes, but my friend the snowman always accompanies me for flavor. What am I?

I am a green vegetable, I am eaten raw or cooked, Popeye dotes on it. What am I?

When a person blushes, he or she is said to be red as a … is it a vegetable or a fruit?

It is long and yellow. Its skin is thick and inedible. Monkeys like to eat this fruit and so do I.

When a person isn’t very smart, they say he has a ….-brain. This one is difficult.

Answers will be in the end of this post.

Why are fruit and vegetables healthy?

Because they are rich in vitamins, minerals, trace elements, fiber and water. The human body does everything better with all of this.

For example, apricots have vitamin A to help you grow; peppers have vitamin C to help fight disease and it has to be consumed every day as the body can’t store it.
